  • Question:

I've purhased a small business account online, but when I start to create my company's profile, I get a messasge "you are not authorized to view this page."

    Answer:

This means the company posting is waiting for approval. It will take between 24-48 hours to approve it if you submit between Monday thru Friday. Weekend submissions will take a little longer. All company submissions will be aproved unless they are not inline with our Terms Of Service. See Terms of Service button at the bottom of the home page. Generally, we can't approve adult entertainment companies and the like. Please read Terms of Service.

  • Question:

When setting up my job search agent, I intentionally left the salary field blank. Will this broaden my job search results?

    Answer:

Yes. Corporations rarely post salary ranges.Your search will pull more jobs if you omit your salary requirements. You can get salary information on the web by Googling wage reports, salary reports, compensation reports. Most cost a fee, but there are some free ones out there.
Note: government positions-federal,state,county etc-always list the salary range for the position.

  • Question:

I'm getting no jobs posted to my job search agent. What's wrong?

    Answer:

It's a fact that job opportunities are not as plentiful right now as companies react to the current economy's instability. Tips to get more hits? Make your requirements very open. For example - you can leave blank compensation, job title, experience, employment type. Also, remember to select daily or weekly at the bottom of the agent page for your email preferences.

  • Question:

How do I delete or edit my job search engine

    Answer:

When you created your job search agent(s)you had to give it a title--like "banking jobs" "manager jobs" etc. Log into your profile..Click on my job search. Click on whatever the name is of your job search to edit or delete it. Be sure to check weekly or daily alerts at the bottom of the page.
Also--you do not need to have your entire profile deleted in order to edit or change your job search agents.
Networking is the top path to a good job offer. Make professional networking on the site a priority part of your job search strategy.

  • Question:

How do I get my profile picture to look good on the site?

    Answer:

1-a headshot is usually your best bet because a)it focuses on you--your intelligent, skilled looking face and maybe a bit of your business attire--which I recommend stay at business casual or above.
2-the photo should be very high resolution (if you get a friend to take your headshot-adjust your camera so that it takes the picture on the highest resolution your camera can take.)
3-size it down in a basic photo editor on your pc first..then upload it to the site once it's sized down and looks good that way.
1-3 above apply to this site and to all professional networking sites. Some sites have a picture editor right there during the upload process. We'll be adding that feature but for right now-preparing it on your pc and then uploading it is the best way to go.

  • Question:

What gives? I posted my profile and now its' gone.

    Answer:

Everyone is welcome here at LGBTCareerLink. But there are a few things we just can't allow because this is a career development website, rather than a purely social one.

Remember, the site's sponsors and other employers actively review not just applications you upload to their job postings, they're searching for talent within the profiles and may contact you directly.

As a rule of thumb, if your attire would not be acceptable at a standard US corporation's workplace, then it's also inappropriate here.

This is actually true for all the professional networking sites. All employers these days will be Googling candidates--make sure that everything on the web related to you is what you would want an employer to see.

  • Question:

I emailed someone here and never got a reply

    Answer:

There are 2 different ways to send and receive email on the site.If you don't wish to display your work or personal email address here-this site has it's own email. It's actually a good idea not to give your personal or work email out on the site until you are sure any emails you get are legitimate.

  • Question:

I don't want to give out my professional email address at this time. How do I use the site's email feature?

    Answer:

1-Create your profile and log into the site (email is available only to registered users)
2-Click the People tab and look through profiles
3-Click the profile of someone you would like to contact
4-If the person wants to be contacted, you will see email and/or connect buttons.
5-Click connect if you want to connect with the person so that person shows up under "my connections" on your profile page
5-Click email if you want to send the person an email

Be Sure to Check Your Email Inbox on Your Profile Page !!!

  • Question:

How do I get the job search to start? It doesn't work.

    Answer:

Fill in the details of your search-for example-if you want a job in CA put in CA in the state field. Press enter on your keyboard-the search starts.
Remember, the broader you are in your search, the more job hits you'll get. This economy means there are fewer jobs posted so go wide when you cast your net.
